  • Strain condition: axenic.

Morphology and Structure

Trichomes are curved, intertwined with each other, constricted in the area of the transverse septa, and are light blue-green, 0.6–0.8 µm wide. The sheaths are colourless and stick together. The cells are cylindrical; their length is 2–8 times greater than their width; granulations in the area of the transverse septa are absent. The threads have a uniform thickness along their entire length, with only the very tip slightly tapered and slightly curved. The terminal cell is blunt-conical. Division occurs in a single plane, resulting in the cells being arranged in a linear order. The colour is blue-green. The cells do not settle to the bottom; the culture grows, forming a film on the walls of the culture vessel.

Cultivation

  • Culture medium: Zarrouk medium (liquid and agarized)
  • Temperature: 22–30 °C (optimum 25 °C)
  • Light intensity: 60–70 µmol photons·m⁻²·s⁻¹
  • Light regime: 12:12 h (light/dark)
  • pH of the medium: 6.5–7.0

Physiological Characteristics

Photoautotroph; mesophile.

Long-term Preservation Conditions

stored on solid Prat medium at a temperature of 12–14 °C and low light 10–20 µmol photons·m⁻²·s⁻¹. Maximum storage period — 2 months.
